The Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Otunba-Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, on Monday, December 1, 2025, convened a high-level meeting with senior security officials from Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) to tackle the escalating sabotage of electricity infrastructure across the Epe Division.
Epe Insights reports that the IKEDC delegation was led by Chief Security Officer, Mr Asaju Babatunde, alongside Physical Security Manager, Mr Paul Airoboman. The meeting also saw the participation of the Vice-Chairman, Alhaji Wasiu Oluwole Dehinsilu; Leader of the House, Hon. Hassan Mustapha Owolabi; and Chief of Staff, Hon. Jayesimi Ibraheem Abiodun.
The Executive Chairman expressed deep concern over the repeated destruction of power cables supplying electricity to communities in the division, describing the acts as deliberate sabotage designed to disrupt socio-economic activities and plunge the Epe Federal Constituency into prolonged darkness. Anomo highlighted measures already implemented by the Council, including enhanced surveillance and sustained engagement of the Joint Security Taskforce, stressing that a coordinated partnership between government and IKEDC is essential for resolving the crisis.
Speaking on behalf of IKEDC, CSO Mr Babatunde clarified that recent incidents are not mere acts of vandalism but calculated sabotage. He noted that perpetrators deliberately cause technical faults and cut electricity cables without theft, indicating an intent to destabilise the power supply rather than profit financially. He urged stakeholders to collaborate in uncovering the motives and halting these deliberate attacks.
Mr Babatunde also highlighted the limitations of previous enforcement efforts, noting that minor penalties at magistrate courts did little to deter sabotage. However, under the newly enacted Electricity Act, sabotage of electricity infrastructure now carries penalties of up to 15 years imprisonment, with cases prosecuted at the High Court, marking a significant shift in legal deterrence.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of strategic measures to safeguard electricity installations, enhance surveillance, and improve community intelligence. Anomo confirmed that Epe Local Government and Eredo LCDA are fully aligned in implementing a comprehensive solution across the division.
The Executive Chairman reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting public utilities, restoring a stable power supply, and ensuring that culprits face the full weight of the law.
