Otunba-Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, has voiced his extreme disapproval of the recent vandalism of electrical wires that bring power to the Epe corridor.

Eko Hot News reports  Anomo oversaw a site visit on Sunday to the damaged portion of the Epe power line close to the Shala–Molajoye axis, where six poles were purportedly tampered with during a nocturnal attack. The Joint Security Taskforce, a multi-agency group established last year to deal with recurrent cable vandalism that previously caused Epe and the surrounding areas to experience prolonged blackouts, accompanied him.

The task force, comprising operatives from key security formations and local security groups, joined the Chairman in assessing the extent of the destruction and activating immediate security responses. The renewed vandalism mirrors similar incidents recorded last year, which left the Epe Federal Constituency without electricity for several months, a situation residents described as economically crippling and socially disruptive.

During the inspection, Anomo condemned the sabotage in strong terms, describing it as an intentional attack on the progress and stability of the entire community. Visibly displeased, he stated that the recurring incidents were unacceptable and amounted to a collective assault on the livelihoods and well-being of the people.

“It is depressing that our people must face this kind of deliberate adversity once more,” Anomo remarked. “We won’t stand by while a few criminal elements undermine government initiatives, interfere with livelihoods, and cause needless misery to our communities. This behaviour is unacceptable, criminal, and terrible.

The Chairman emphasised that the three councils—Epe, Eredo, and Ikosi-Ejinrin—will step up surveillance along the electricity route in coordination with security authorities, and he issued a strong warning to those responsible for the damage. He promised that the offenders would be caught and brought to justice to the utmost extent possible. He claims that the councils are working together to make sure the region’s electrical infrastructure is completely safeguarded in order to stop such incidents.

Anomo reaffirmed that the LCDA is already working with relevant authorities to secure the corridor, commence emergency protection measures, and support efforts to restore power to the affected axis. He added that the government is committed to ensuring a stable electricity supply and would not allow the actions of saboteurs to undermine community development.

He further called on residents to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding public utilities. He urged community members to immediately report suspicious activities or individuals loitering around power installations, noting that local participation is key to preventing future attacks.

The Chairman emphasised that the fight against cable vandalism requires collective responsibility, and only through cooperation between government, security agencies, and the community can such criminal acts be curbed.

With restoration efforts underway, the LCDA assures residents that everything possible is being done to prevent prolonged darkness and to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly.
