Further details have emerged following Tuesday’s tragic building collapse in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
EpeInsights reports that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the recovery of three dead bodies from the site.
This update was shared on Wednesday by LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who also revealed that nine adult males were successfully rescued and received immediate medical attention from the agency’s pre-hospital care team.
Emergency responders were deployed after distress calls came in at about 2:02 p.m. on Tuesday. By 2:40 p.m., response teams from Agbowa and Alausa arrived at the scene to find that a two-storey building under construction had collapsed, trapping several individuals underneath.
“Unfortunately, three victims were recovered dead from the rubble,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
“All recovered bodies have been handed over to the Igbogbo Police Station.”
He added that the cause of the collapse has yet to be determined, and the site has since been cordoned off as rescue operations continue and investigations begin.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns around building safety and enforcement of construction standards in Lagos, a city where structural failures have become all too frequent.
