A tragic accident rocked the Iyana Ejigbo area of Lagos on Saturday after a commercial LT bus reportedly suffered brake failure, veered off the road, and ploughed into a group of pedestrians, killing one and leaving two others seriously injured.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), preliminary investigations point to overspeeding and mechanical failure specifically brake failure as the cause of the crash.

In a disturbing development, the driver and conductor of the bus abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene before help could arrive.

Officials of LASTMA and the Ejigbo Police Division responded promptly, rescuing the injured and removing the body of the deceased, who was reportedly pinned beneath the bus. The victims were immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Isolo for emergency treatment.

The accident vehicle has been handed over to the Police for further investigation.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured a quick recovery. He used the opportunity to appeal to motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles.
