Hon. Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun has been re-elected as the Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, securing an overwhelming 34,819 votes in the just-concluded local government elections.
EpeInsights reports that the election, held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate dominate the polls in a three-party race.
According to the results announced by the Returning Officer, Professor Habeeb Sanni, her closest rivals from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) garnered 1,535 and 675 votes respectively.
“It was a transparent, peaceful, and credible process,” Prof. Sanni noted at the collation centre.
“The results clearly reflect the will of the people in Epe.”
Animashaun’s re-election marks the beginning of her second term as Epe’s first female council chair, solidifying her place as a trailblazer in local governance.
Her first term was lauded for people-oriented policies and improved community engagement factors many residents say contributed to her landslide win.
In her acceptance speech, she extended heartfelt appreciation to her supporters and key figures who stood by her campaign.
“This victory is for the people of Epe—our women, our youths, our children, and everyone who believes in progress,” she said.
“I sincerely thank the President, the Lagos State Governor and Deputy Governor, Alhaji Seriki Bamu, Hon. Abiodun Tobun, my father, the Oloja of Epe Land my family, and everyone who contributed to this journey.”
Promising to build on the foundations laid during her first term, Animashaun pledged to focus on inclusive development, youth empowerment, infrastructure upgrades, and better public services.
The atmosphere in Epe following the announcement was one of celebration, with residents, party loyalists, and youth groups describing the result as a clear mandate to continue her transformational work.
As the dust settles, Epe locals are optimistic that her second term will usher in even more meaningful change and deeper engagement with grassroots priorities.
