Senator Tokunbo Abiru Joins President Tinubu, Top Officials at Buhari’s State Funeral in Daura

Senator Tokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District and Chairman of the Southern Senators Forum, joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and other top dignitaries in Daura on Tuesday for the state funeral of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

EpeInsights reports that the solemn event, held in the late leader’s hometown in Katsina State, was attended by principal officers of the National Assembly, senior government officials, private sector leaders, and members of the international community.

The nation gathered in unity to pay their last respects to a man widely regarded for his steadfast leadership and lifelong service to Nigeria.

Reflecting on the former president’s legacy, Senator Abiru had earlier lauded Buhari’s contributions to the political and socio-economic transformation of the country.

He described Buhari as a “national figure whose disciplined leadership and integrity shaped Nigeria’s democratic journey in many profound ways.”

“As we bid farewell to a great leader, may Almighty Allah grant him Aljanah Firdaus and give his family, loved ones, and indeed the entire nation, the strength to bear this loss,” Senator Abiru said.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, leaves behind a complex but enduring legacy marked by anti-corruption campaigns, infrastructural expansion and efforts to reposition Nigeria on the global stage.

The state funeral in Daura was marked by Islamic prayers, military honours and a gathering of political allies and admirers whose tributes echoed the late leader’s devotion to nationhood and service.

For Senator Abiru and many others in attendance, the day was not only about mourning the passing of a former president, it was a moment to honor history and recommit to the values Buhari stood for.
