Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has paid tribute to his late Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Gboyega Soyannwo, as family, friends, and colleagues prepare to mark the first anniversary of his passing on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
EpeInsights gathered that the remembrance and thanksgiving service will be held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, The Covenant House, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Dignitaries from within and outside government are expected to attend, joining the Soyannwo family in honouring a man many have described as a dedicated public servant and loyal friend.
Mr. Soyannwo passed away on May 15, 2024, at the age of 55, following a brief illness. He was laid to rest on May 23, 2024, at the Vaults and Gardens Cemetery, following a funeral service at RCCG’s City of David Parish, also in Victoria Island.
Reflecting on the legacy of his former aide, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the late Soyannwo as more than just a colleague.
“Soyannwo was not only my Deputy Chief of Staff by title; he was my brother, an armour-bearer, a confidante and a faithful believer in our collective dream of a Greater Lagos,” the Governor said.
He recalled the tireless dedication and strong commitment with which Mr. Soyannwo served the state, emphasizing that his impact remains deeply felt within the government and beyond.
“Though Gboyega is no more with us, his total dedication and service to Lagos State will never be forgotten. He worked passionately with me in ensuring that good governance and dividends of democracy are delivered to millions of Lagos residents,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The Governor also offered words of comfort to the family of the late public servant, expressing solidarity and prayers for his widow, Yewande, and their children.
“As we celebrate one year of remembrance of Gboyega Soyannwo, my prayers are with his beloved wife, Yewande, and their children, as well as the entire family he left behind. I pray that God will continue to be with them.”
The one-year memorial is expected to be a solemn but uplifting occasion, reflecting the life of a man remembered for his humility, devotion, and unwavering service to the people of Lagos State.
