Sanwo-Olu Mourns Buhari’s Passing, Calls It a Colossal National Loss

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has joined national and global voices in mourning the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his passing as a colossal loss to Nigeria.

EpeInsights reports that the Governor in a statement issued on Sunday, July 13, 2025, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, paid glowing tribute to the late former President.

Governor Sanwo-Olu hailed him as a courageous, honest, and transparent leader who served Nigeria selflessly throughout his lifetime.

“He was a courageous, disciplined, respected, and passionate leader,” the governor stated.

“His commitment to the growth and development of Nigeria is worthy of emulation.”

Sanwo-Olu, on behalf of his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and the entire people and government of Lagos State, expressed deep condolences to the Buhari family, President Bola Tinubu, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the loss of a founding leader and statesman.

Highlighting Buhari’s long and varied career in public service, Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the late President had “sacrificed the greater part of his life in the service of our dear country,” citing his contributions as Military Governor, Minister of Petroleum Resources, Head of State, and two-term civilian President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

“He was a respected leader who served Nigeria passionately in different capacities and left with unblemished records,” Sanwo-Olu added.

The governor also commiserated with Hajia Aisha Buhari, the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and particularly Daura, the late leader’s hometown.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s message underscored Buhari’s integrity and patriotism, describing him as a leader who truly loved Nigeria and contributed immensely to its unity and development.

“May God bless the soul of former President Muhammadu Buhari and grant Nigerians the strength to bear this great loss,” he prayed.
