The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has commended 9mobile for its bold transformation to the new brand identity, T2, describing the rebranding as a remarkable demonstration of creativity, resilience and technological advancement.
EpeInsights gathered that the Governor gave the commendation during the official unveiling of the T2 brand, themed “Tech Meets Tenacity”, held at the Eko Hotels Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. ’Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Sanwo-Olu said the event was in perfect alignment with Lagos State’s unwavering pursuit of excellence, especially in innovation and digital transformation.
According to him, the new brand identity resonates strongly with the state’s vision of building a connected, competitive and innovation-driven city through robust public-private partnerships.
“Lagos is a living testimony of what happens when vision meets hard work, and when technology meets tenacity,” he noted.
The Governor highlighted his administration’s deliberate strategy to position Lagos as Nigeria’s technology and innovation capital, citing targeted policies, strategic investments, and collaborations with forward-thinking partners as key enablers.
He referenced notable achievements, including the provision of start-up funding through the Lagos State Science, Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC), Smart City initiatives, the Eko Excel programme for digitising public education and technology-driven healthcare platforms.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised that while technology is a critical driver of development, its true impact comes when matched with the tenacity to apply, refine and improve it for national progress.
He praised 9mobile’s innovation as a product “crafted for creators and built for Nigeria,” reaffirming his government’s commitment to making Lagos not only Africa’s commercial hub but a global city of the future.
In his goodwill message, the Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, congratulated the management of 9mobile on its new chapter, urging them to uphold a renewed service culture that meets the needs of individuals and businesses reliant on their network.
Speaking on the rebranding, the Chief Executive Officer of 9mobile/T2, Mr. Obafemi Banigbe, explained that the company is transitioning into a cloud-native and API-ready network, with an increased focus on innovation, data-driven solutions and customer experience.
He disclosed that a national roaming agreement had already been signed with MTN Nigeria, aimed at expanding coverage and optimising service delivery across the country.
The well-attended launch brought together notable figures from the technology sector, business leaders and strategic partners from across Nigeria. The event also featured an uplifting musical performance by the 9mobile choir, adding colour and vibrancy to the unveiling ceremony.
