Tragedy struck along the Ibeju axis of the Lekki-Epe Expressway on Monday when an 18-seater passenger bus collided with a truck, leaving several people dead and others injured.
EpeInsights reports that Member of the House of Representatives for Epe Federal Constituency, Hon. Wale Raji, while reacting to the incident, described the crash as “heartbreaking” and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
“I received with deep shock and sadness the tragic news of the fatal accident… The heartbreaking incident has claimed several precious lives, leaving families and our entire constituency in mourning,” Raji said in a statement.
The lawmaker prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and a speedy recovery for the injured, while urging drivers to adopt a culture of safety and discipline on the highways.
“This tragic occurrence is yet another sober reminder of the need for caution… I appeal to all drivers, particularly those who ply the Lekki-Epe Expressway, to adhere strictly to speed limits, avoid reckless overtaking, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy,” he added.
Raji also called on relevant authorities and transport unions to intensify safety campaigns in order to reduce avoidable road crashes.
“As representatives of the people, we remain committed to advocating for improved road infrastructure, safety measures, and policies that protect commuters,” he assured.
The Lekki-Epe Expressway, a vital link for communities in Lagos, has in recent years witnessed frequent accidents, often attributed to speeding, poor road discipline and heavy vehicular activity.
