The Lagos State Parastatal Monitoring Office (PMO), on Monday, paid a working visit to the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) as part of its oversight mandate on state-owned agencies and organisations.

EpeInsights reports that while receiving the delegation led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Parastatal Monitoring, Hon. Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, the General Manager of LSWMO, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, highlighted the agency’s central role in safeguarding public health through proper wastewater management across Lagos.

According to him, Zonal Heads and Enforcement Officers of the agency operate in all Local Governments and LCDAs to monitor wastewater disposal practices and prevent sewage from being discharged into public drains, a practice that poses serious risks of communicable diseases.

Engr. Afolabi, however, pointed out the challenge of inadequate monitoring vehicles, noting that this has limited field operations.

He appealed to PMO to support the office in securing more operational vehicles, assuring that with adequate logistics, LSWMO would not only boost its revenue generation but also strengthen its service delivery across the state.

In his remarks, Hon. Obanikoro explained that the visit was aimed at assessing the agency’s performance and identifying areas for improvement.

While commending the General Manager and his team for their efforts, he urged them to intensify their work, stressing that effective wastewater management is critical to public health and environmental sustainability in Lagos.

“The reward for hard work is more work,” the Special Adviser said, encouraging the management and staff of LSWMO to redouble their efforts toward making wastewater management more sustainable for the benefit of all residents.
