In a proactive move to promote early detection and prevention of breast cancer, over 200 women recently participated in a Breast Cancer Awareness and Outreach Programme organised by Olukayode Ogundipe, the Lawmaker representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency One.

EpeInsights reports that the initiative, held in collaboration with the Surgical Interest Group Lagos (Surgil), aimed to address one of the most pressing health challenges among women: late detection of breast cancer.

Speaking at the event, Ogundipe highlighted the critical importance of early screening and regular self-examinations. He stressed that early detection could save countless lives and reiterated his commitment to supporting health-focused initiatives in the Oshodi-Isolo community. “Good health is the foundation of a productive and progressive society,” he said.

Also sharing insights, Samuel Apata, the Lawmaker representing Shomolu Constituency Two, emphasized educating women on performing monthly breast self-examinations, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and seeking medical attention immediately upon noticing unusual lumps or changes.

Oluwadarasimi Adeboyeku, President of the Surgical Interest Group Lagos (Surgil), addressed common myths surrounding breast cancer.

She reassured attendees that with early detection and proper treatment, breast cancer is not a death sentence.

Adeboyeku further encouraged women to act as ambassadors of health awareness in their communities.

Participants enjoyed a range of free medical services, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks, clinical and self-breast examinations, ultrasound scans, and mammograms, ensuring a comprehensive approach to women’s health.

This initiative reinforces the message that awareness, education, and early action are key to combating breast cancer and building healthier communities.Over 200 Women Benefit from Breast Cancer Awareness Programme in Oshodi-Isolo
