The traditional ruler of Ibeju Kingdom, Oba Waliu Abdulrasaq, the Onibeju of Ibeju-Land, has heaped praise on Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for significantly improving the road infrastructure connecting Ibeju-Lekki and Epe.
EpeInsights reports that the monarch made the call during the commissioning of several projects by the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government under the leadership of Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the monarch described the improved road network as a game-changer for the region.
“The journey from Ibeju-Lekki to Epe used to be a nightmare. Today, it’s as easy as going to the backyard. That’s the level of transformation we’re talking about. We are truly grateful,” Oba Abdulrasaq stated.
While applauding the Governor’s achievements, the Onibeju used the platform to appeal for even more development.
Oba Abdulrasaq highlighted the persistent lack of electricity in some communities, with residents reportedly living without power for over a decade.
“Our people are suffering. We still have communities in darkness and roads in disrepair. We are pleading with Your Excellency to help us restore electricity and complete the remaining roadworks,” he said.
The Onibeju also made a passionate call for the establishment of a higher institution in Ibeju-Lekki, emphasizing that the region is well-positioned to host such a facility.
“We already have land set aside. Our population is growing, and our location is strategic. It’s time for Ibeju-Lekki to have its own tertiary institution,” he urged.
In response, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu assured the traditional ruler and residents that their concerns are being addressed.
“We’re not just listening; we’re taking action,” he said.
“The electricity project has already been awarded and will be completed before the year ends.”
On the issue of a higher institution, the Governor promised to consider the request and consult with relevant stakeholders.
Sanwo-Olu also commended Hon. Olowa for his outstanding leadership at the grassroots level, noting that it’s rare for a local government to deliver such a range of impactful projects in one term.
