The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, on Tuesday spearheaded a major enforcement operation against illegal roadside trading along the busy Lekki–Epe Expressway.
EpeInsights reports that the council boss joined by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji and the Market Monitoring and Regulation Committee, led the exercise to clear traders who had encroached on road setbacks, obstructing traffic and endangering lives.
Speaking during the operation, Hon. Olowa reaffirmed his administration’s determination to restore order to public spaces, safeguard road users, and promote a safer, cleaner environment.
“Commerce is vital to community growth, but trading must take place in designated markets where the safety and convenience of everyone is guaranteed,” Olowa stated. He warned that continued violations would attract stiffer sanctions, urging traders to move into government-approved marketplaces.
The operation covered several communities, including Lakowe, Adeba, Ogunfayo, Awoyaya, Oribanwa, and Gbetu — areas notorious for roadside trading that has long posed hazards to both motorists and pedestrians.
Officials from the Environment Department, the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) team, the Ibeju-Lekki Community Corps (Folumo), and other council officers were on ground to support the enforcement exercise.
The crackdown is part of a wider push by the Olowa-led administration to strengthen urban management, ease traffic congestion, and improve the overall quality of life in Ibeju-Lekki.
