The Lagos State New Towns Development Authority (NTDA) has held a key stakeholders’ meeting to chart the development of new towns in Ode-Omi, Ise-Igbogun, and neighbouring areas, a move set to drive sustainable urban growth, improve infrastructure, and create job opportunities in the region.

Epe Insights reports that Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, who attended the meeting, emphasised that the project aligns with Lagos State’s commitment to equitable and planned urban expansion. The proposed development includes strategic sites such as the State Refinery and Steel Plant, which hold significant potential for industrial growth and local employment.

Olowa highlighted the importance of collaboration between government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and local communities to ensure the success of the project. “Our collective efforts will ensure that this development benefits local communities and drives progress across the region,” he said via his X handle.

The meeting focused on critical aspects of the new towns project, including infrastructure planning, land use, environmental sustainability, and social development. Stakeholders were encouraged to contribute ideas on transport networks, housing, utilities, healthcare, and educational facilities to create well-rounded and livable communities.

The Lagos State NTDA described the initiative as a transformative step toward unlocking the economic and social potential of the area while fostering sustainable urbanisation. By integrating residential, industrial, and commercial components, the project is expected to attract investment, enhance local services, and improve the overall quality of life for residents.

In addition to economic benefits, the development aims to support social inclusion by providing employment opportunities, encouraging local entrepreneurship, and establishing spaces for education, healthcare, and recreation. The initiative is part of Lagos State’s broader strategy to balance rapid urbanisation with sustainable community development.

The proposed new towns in Ode-Omi and Ise-Igbogun are seen as a milestone in Lagos State’s vision for planned urban growth, offering a blueprint for modern, safe, and economically vibrant communities.
