In a landmark development for Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Executive Chairman, has been declared Chairman of Chairmen for the Conference of 57 Local Government Chairmen in Lagos State.

EpeInsights reports that the announcement was made following the swearing-in ceremony of all newly elected Local Government Chairmen, held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the Lagos State Government House, Alausa.

This prestigious position places him at the forefront of grassroots leadership across the state.

The event was presided over by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

This marked the official commencement of the new four-year tenure for the chairmen of Lagos’ 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

In addition to Mayor Olowa’s appointment as Chairman of Chairmen, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat, Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaye LCDA, was announced as the Secretary of the Conference.

Together, they are expected to provide strong leadership and coordination among the chairmen, fostering collaboration that will enhance service delivery and grassroots governance.

As Chairman of Chairmen, Mayor Olowa will serve as the principal liaison between the local governments and the state government, facilitating communication, promoting best practices and championing initiatives that drive socio-economic development at the grassroots level.

His leadership comes at a critical time when Lagos State continues to prioritize decentralized governance and increased participation of local councils in the state’s broader development agenda.

Mayor Olowa’s proven track record in infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and community engagement in Ibeju-Lekki is expected to inform his stewardship of the chairmen’s conference.

Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki, Akadiri Ayorinde, in a statement expressed optimism about the opportunities this presents for the local government and the state at large:

“This is a proud moment for Ibeju-Lekki and for Lagos State. With Mayor Olowa at the helm as Chairman of Chairmen, we anticipate stronger unity among our local governments and accelerated progress in grassroots governance. Congratulations to us all. This is the beginning of new things to come.”

The Conference of Chairmen plays a pivotal role in shaping policies that affect local governance and development, making Mayor Olowa’s appointment a significant endorsement of his leadership capabilities and vision.
