Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) has transformed a portacabin into a fully functional maternity ward at the Ebute-Metta General Hospital.

EpeInsights reports that the initiative, undertaken as part of the agency’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), was officially unveiled at a handover ceremony held at the hospital.

The newly renovated facility is expected to enhance access to maternal health services and reduce pressure on existing infrastructure at the hospital.

Speaking at the event, the Medical Director of Ebute-Metta General Hospital, Dr. Irewole Ojo, expressed heartfelt appreciation to LSDPC for the timely and impactful intervention.

She described the transformation as a response to long-standing structural challenges within the hospital’s maternity wing.

“We had a maternity structure, but it was far from ideal. The idea for this project was born when I saw LSDPC’s portacabins near the Third Mainland Bridge and thought, ‘This is exactly what we need,’” she explained.

Dr. Ojo praised LSDPC’s professionalism, responsiveness and technical delivery, noting that the hospital remains hopeful for a broader renovation of its entire facility to further elevate service delivery.

Also present at the handover was Commissioner III for the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Dr. Moyosore Adejumo, who commended the initiative.

She highlighted the critical role of infrastructure in achieving quality healthcare outcomes, particularly in maternal and child health.

Dr. Adejumo also called for sustainable investment in permanent healthcare structures across the state.

The Managing Director of LSDPC, Ayodeji Joseph, said the corporation is committed to not only building the facility but also equipping it to meet the demands of modern maternal care.

“This move reflects LSDPC’s strong commitment to community-centred development and aligns with the government’s broader objective of strengthening healthcare infrastructure across Lagos State,” he said.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Medical Director of Mainland Hospital, Dr. Adedeji Adejumo; Executive Director of Enterprise Services at LSDPC, Prince Adeniyi Aromolaran; as well as senior management staff of both LSDPC and Ebute-Metta General Hospital.

The event marked a collaborative step toward improving maternal healthcare and showcased how effective partnerships between public institutions can directly address pressing community needs.
