The Executive Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), has declared that Dangote Industries must place the welfare of Lekki communities above industrial expansion, particularly as ocean surges continue to displace residents and threaten livelihoods.

EpeInsights reports that Engr. Kasali made this known on Tuesday during a high-level meeting at the palace of the Onilekki of Lekki, His Royal Majesty, Oba Aliasim Olumuyiwa Ogunbekun.

The gathering, which also had in attendance former Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Barr. Mukandasi Olaitan Ogidan, the Iyalode of Lekki, and other community leaders, featured a delegation from the Dangote Group.

Addressing the forum, Kasali emphasized that before Dangote embarks on new projects in the LCDA, the company must first fulfill its earlier commitments to the host communities.

He highlighted the plight of local fishermen whose trade forms the backbone of the area’s economy, as well as families displaced by the persistent ocean surge.

“We cannot allow industrial growth to overshadow human survival. Our people must benefit directly, and affected communities must be rehabilitated before any further expansion can take place,” Kasali stated firmly.

Community leaders echoed his position, insisting that the company has a moral and social responsibility to address the pressing needs of residents, particularly those bearing the brunt of environmental challenges.

The meeting ended with a joint resolution that Lekki communities must be prioritized in all future engagements with Dangote Industries, setting a clear tone for accountability and people-centered development in the LCDA.Lekki LCDA Chairman Demands Dangote's Immediate Action, Community Welfare Amid Ocean Surge Crisis
