The Lagos State Council of Tradesmen and Artisans (LASCOTA), Ibeju-Lekki Local Government chapter, is currently facing a leadership tussle following disagreements over delayed elections and claims to the chairmanship position.

Epe Insights reports that the outgoing Chairman of LASCOTA in Ibeju-Lekki, Comrade Funmilayo Omolara Johnson, has raised concerns over what she described as a deviation from the association’s constitution and democratic process.

Comrade Johnson, alongside concerned members of the association, called on key stakeholders, including the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the LASCOTA State President, Mr. Lawrence Ajayi, and traditional authorities, to intervene and restore order.

She disclosed that her tenure ended months ago and that she is seeking re-election for a second term, noting that all necessary steps, including purchase of forms and screening, had been completed ahead of the scheduled November 13, 2025, elections.

According to her, the election was stalled due to the continued recognition of Mr. Sesan Mujaidu Alashe, who has been acting as chairman without a formal electoral mandate.

Johnson stressed that her appeal is rooted in respect for due process, insisting that leadership must emerge through constitutional means rather than imposition.

She warned that allowing such practices could undermine peace and unity within the association, which she described as law-abiding and non-violent.

Responding to the allegations, Mr. Sesan Mujaidu Alashe defended his position, stating that he was appointed following a selection process at the state level and subsequently approved by the local government chairman.

Alashe noted that he has since been recognised by political leaders and traditional rulers and has been performing official duties, including distribution of benefits to members.

The dispute has heightened calls for timely intervention by government and traditional leaders to prevent escalation and ensure democratic stability within LASCOTA Ibeju-Lekki.
