In a continued push to raise a generation of 21st-century professionals, the Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to strengthening the health and education sectors through quality training and infrastructure.

EpeInsights that this pledge was echoed at the third matriculation ceremony of the Lagos State College of Nursing (LASCON), Igando, held recently for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, represented by Permanent Secretary Mr. Adeniran Kasali, described the matriculation as a significant milestone especially as it marks a new era under the leadership of a newly appointed Provost.

He commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering dedication to the T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda, with particular emphasis on the pillars of Health, Environment, Education, and Technology.

He also highlighted recent infrastructure upgrades on campus, including a nearly completed hostel block and an administrative building under construction.

These efforts, he said, are designed to enhance student comfort and ensure the college maintains its accreditation status for at least the next five years.

Addressing the newly matriculated students, the Commissioner urged them to stay focused, embrace creativity, and lean into technological innovation, essential traits for success in today’s fast-evolving global landscape.

In her own remarks, the Provost of LASCON, Dr. (Mrs.) Ayodeji Ogunmuyiwa, charged the students to strive for excellence in both their academics and future careers.

She encouraged them to tap into the wide range of resources available at the college from mentorship and clinical training to entrepreneurship and advisory services and to be guided by three core values: Compassion, Intellectual Curiosity, and a Commitment to Lifelong Learning.

With strong leadership and a clear vision, LASCON appears well on its way to producing the next generation of competent, compassionate health professionals for Lagos and beyond.
