The Lagos State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has successfully concluded its annual monitoring and familiarisation tour of all 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the state.

EpeInsights learnt that the tour, which is a key part of the Commission’s oversight and engagement strategy, was led by the Chairman, Hon. Kamal Ayinde Bayewu, accompanied by other Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and staff of the Commission.

During the tour, the team held interactive sessions with Council Chairmen, Management Teams, Council Managers, and local government staff.

The purpose was to assess key areas such as staff welfare, infrastructure development, compliance with public service procedures, and overall service delivery at the grassroots level.

Hon. Bayewu expressed satisfaction with the progress made by several councils in areas of staff welfare and infrastructural upgrades.

He highlighted notable interventions such as toll-free staff buses, improved healthcare access, monthly palliatives, renovations of secretariat buildings, adoption of modern technology, and the construction of new legislative buildings.

He particularly commended the councils in Ibeju-Lekki, Olorunda, Somolu, and Igbogbo-Baiyeku for their impressive infrastructural achievements and enhanced service delivery.

The Chairman also praised council leadership for creating improved working environments and for their investment in human capacity development.

He noted that these advancements are clear indicators of deliberate efforts to uplift the standard of local governance and improve the overall well-being of council staff and residents.

Reaffirming the Commission’s dedication to promoting excellence in public service, Hon. Bayewu encouraged all civil servants to maintain a high level of professionalism, punctuality, and commitment to duty. He assured them that the Commission remains proactive and committed to staff welfare and development.

Speaking during the tour, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Abosede George, reiterated that one of the Commission’s top priorities for 2025 is to reinforce adherence to the Public Service Rules.

She urged Human Resource Officers and management teams to ensure that all staff are well-acquainted with these rules, describing them as essential tools for ensuring discipline, accountability, and efficiency within the system.

Mrs. George also announced that Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved the introduction of a Best Officer Award to honour outstanding performers in the Local Government Service. This initiative, she noted, is designed to motivate workers and mirror the reward structure of the State’s Mainstream Public Service.

She further stressed the importance of effective communication and proper documentation within councils, noting that all official correspondences and memos must now follow the correct formats, as incomplete or improperly documented submissions would no longer be accepted.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Local Government Establishment and Training, Mrs. Bibilomo Olushekun, highlighted ongoing reforms within the Administrative and Human Resource Department.

These reforms include the introduction of structured interviews for aspiring Council Managers and Human Resource Officers, as well as the reorganisation of the department into five administrative divisions for targeted training and support.Lagos Local Government Service Commission Concludes Monitoring Tour of 57 LGAs, LCDAs

She also confirmed the reinstatement of the diploma programme for officers from level 7, who will now undergo Computer-Based Tests as part of the promotion process up to level 12.

According to her, councils are expected to regularly update their nominal rolls to support accurate workforce planning. She added that the Commission is focused on staff development through regular training, mentoring, and the promotion of digital literacy and ICT skills.

She also encouraged the celebration of retiring officers in recognition of their service.

Throughout the tour, staff and leaders at various local councils expressed deep appreciation to the Commission for its hands-on leadership and reform-driven agenda.

Many praised the Commission’s commitment to transparency, merit-based postings, and the elevation of service standards through systemic reforms.

These efforts, they said, have led to improved efficiency, staff morale, and professionalism across the Local Government Service.

In response, the Commission pledged to continue driving initiatives that will strengthen local governance and support the development of a skilled and motivated workforce dedicated to excellent service delivery.

The delegation included Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Kamal Ayinde Bayewu; Commissioner I, Lagos Division, Hon. Akeem Adisa Bamgbola; Commissioner II, Epe Division, Hon. Ahmed Ayinde Seriki; Commissioner III, Ikeja Division, Hon. Taofeek Abiodun Adaranijo; and Commissioner IV, Ikorodu Division, Hon. Olubowale Sosimi.
