In a decisive move to tackle traffic gridlock and improve logistics along the bustling Lekki-Epe corridor, the Lagos State Government has announced that full enforcement of the much-anticipated E-Call Up system will commence on June 16, 2025.

EpeInsights reports that the announcement was made by Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday, May 29, aimed at addressing persistent traffic woes aggravated by industrial activities around the Lekki Free Zone.

Dr. Hamzat emphasized that the E-Call Up system, tailored to manage the movement of articulated trucks and tankers, is modeled to prevent the chaotic scenes of Apapa-style gridlock.

“This is about restoring order, improving logistics, and safeguarding road infrastructure,” he said, urging stakeholders to support the initiative in the collective interest of economic growth and public safety.

Also at the meeting, Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stressed that the system is not a revenue-generating venture but a critical strategy to enhance traffic flow and road safety.

He ordered the immediate removal of trucks currently causing obstructions on the corridor, noting that earlier delays in enforcement stemmed from the need for further stakeholder engagement.

“This time, enforcement is non-negotiable,” Osiyemi said.

“We have the consensus, we’ve consulted widely, and now we are moving forward with action.”

The meeting brought together a powerhouse of industry stakeholders, including NUPENG, PTD, IPMAN, MEMAN, DAPPMAN, Lekki Free Zone, Lekki Port, NPA, NNPC Retail, and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

With the June 16 deadline fast approaching, Lagos State is doubling down on efforts to ensure seamless implementation, signaling a new era in traffic management for the vital Lekki-Epe axis.Lagos Govt Sets June 16 for Enforcement of E-Call Up System on Lekki-Epe Corridor
