The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed that technical errors disrupted the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for candidates in Lagos, among other locations.
EpeInsights reports that the board’s Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede, revealed that 65 centres in Lagos, affecting a total of 206,610 candidates, were impacted by the glitch.
Oloyede explained that the issue, which occurred on April 25, 2025—the second day of the examinations—was identified within 24 hours.
The error stemmed from a failure to properly apply a patch to some servers in the Lagos zone by the service provider. This oversight led to disruptions in uploading candidates’ responses within the first few days of the examination.
“Unfortunately, the issue went undetected before the results were released,” Oloyede said, adding that the technical failure was traced to a specific fault in the LAG category for Lagos and Owerri zones.
As a result, candidates affected by the glitch in these 65 centres will be required to retake their exams starting from Friday, May 16, 2025.
JAMB has announced that all impacted candidates will be contacted through SMS, emails, and phone calls, and they will need to reprint their examination slips for the rescheduled dates.
“We are working closely with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), which is currently conducting the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), to ensure that affected candidates can resit their UTME without clashing with WAEC’s timetable,” Oloyede added.
The board has assured that no major scheduling conflicts are expected for the rescheduled UTME, with most candidates slated to retake their exams on Saturday.
JAMB’s efforts to correct the glitch come as a significant step to ensure that all affected candidates in Lagos, and other impacted regions, are given an opportunity to complete their exams fairly.
