Iwerekun Community Senior High School, Lakowe, has once again emerged victorious at the 9th edition of the Annual Tolaram Science Challenge, reaffirming its academic dominance in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
EpeInsights learnt that the school clinched first place for the second year in a row, a remarkable feat that solidifies its reputation for scholastic excellence and competitive edge.
Held within the Ibeju-Lekki educational district, the Tolaram Science Challenge brought together 96 students from 19 public and private secondary schools across the region.
The intellectually demanding competition tested participants’ knowledge in core science subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, as well as General Knowledge, in a bid to encourage analytical thinking and ignite a deeper interest in science among young learners.
The annual event is a flagship educational initiative of the Tolaram Group, designed to promote academic curiosity, foster healthy academic rivalry and discover budding scientific talent within Lagos State.
Now in its ninth year, the competition has grown in reach and prestige, becoming a highly anticipated event on the educational calendar of Ibeju-Lekki.
In recognition of their victory, representatives of Iwerekun Community SHS paid a courtesy visit to the Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of Education District III, Dr. Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, where they formally presented the championship trophy.
Dr. Oyetola warmly congratulated the students and their teachers on their outstanding achievement, praising their commitment, preparation and consistency.
She also commended the school’s leadership for creating an environment conducive to academic excellence.
“You have not only made your school proud, but you have also brought honour to the entire District III. Your discipline, dedication, and focus are worthy of emulation,” Dr. Oyetola stated, urging the students to remain steadfast in their academic pursuits and to serve as role models to their peers.
The Tolaram Science Challenge continues to be a powerful tool in stimulating interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education across Lagos.
