The ancient and culturally rich town of Ilara is brimming with anticipation as preparations reach their peak for the grand celebration of a historic milestone, the 5th Coronation Anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo (Telade IV), the Alara of Ilara Kingdom.
EpeInsights reports that since his ascension to the throne in 2020, Oba Ogunsanwo has proven to be a monarch like no other, embodying wisdom, progress and a rare blend of modern leadership with traditional reverence.
For five years, the Alara has presided over Ilara with a steady hand and visionary mind, ushering in a period marked by peace, infrastructural strides, cultural revival, and economic development.
His reign has become synonymous with inclusive growth and purposeful leadership, positioning Ilara not just as a kingdom of tradition but as a beacon of possibility in Lagos State.
To commemorate this remarkable journey, a three-day celebration has been announced by the Organising Committee, scheduled to hold from Friday, August 15 to Sunday, August 17, 2025.
The festivities will begin with a community empowerment programme and a free medical outreach, offering vital healthcare and support services to residents, a direct reflection of the monarch’s commitment to the wellbeing of his people. That same day, a special Jumat service will be held in his honour, blending spiritual grace with civic generosity.
The highlight of the celebration will take place on Saturday, August 16, at the royal palace, where the main coronation anniversary ceremony is set to unfold in regal splendour.

During this occasion, seven individuals and couples will be conferred with prestigious honorary chieftaincy titles in recognition of their contributions to the growth and development of the Ilara Kingdom.
These include notable figures such as Prof. John Oladapo Obafunwa as Balogun of Ilara, Surv. Jelili Kolawole Olayemi as Olotu of Ilara, Prof. Kemi Pinhero as Baamofin, and other distinguished honourees whose loyalty and service to the crown have earned them royal distinction.
On Sunday, August 17, the celebration will conclude on a spiritual note with a thanksgiving mass at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ilara-Epe.
The festivities will then culminate in a royal banquet, where guests, dignitaries, and the people of Ilara will come together in an atmosphere of joy and unity to toast to five years of enduring excellence.
Oba Ogunsanwo, a respected expert in finance and taxation and a former Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), has brought a wealth of experience into his role as traditional ruler.
His reign has not only preserved the cultural heritage of Ilara but has also strategically positioned the kingdom for long-term advancement through partnerships, innovation and people-oriented leadership. A monarch of intellect and humility, he has redefined what it means to wear the crown in the 21st century.
As the kingdom prepares to host guests from across Nigeria and beyond, Ilara stands ready to honour a king who has given his all in service to his people. The next chapter of this remarkable reign begins with celebration and the drums of Ilara are already beating in joyous anticipation.
