The Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has rolled out a one-month intensive skill acquisition programme aimed at empowering youths and promoting self-reliance across the community.
EpeInsights reports that the initiative, themed “Empowering Minds, Building Sustainable Livelihoods,” is part of the council’s broader effort to tackle unemployment and poverty through vocational training.
Speaking during the sensitization exercise held at the council secretariat, Executive Chairman Otunba-Akogun Wale Raji Anomo who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Alhaji Wasiu Dehinsilu encouraged participants to approach the training with dedication, describing it as an investment in their future.
“This programme is not just about learning a trade; it is about building a foundation for financial independence and lifelong success,” he said.
Also addressing the participants, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Hassan Mustapha, urged them to remain focused and serve as good ambassadors of the council throughout the exercise.
Council officials present at the event included the Chief of Staff, Hon. Jayesimi Ibraheem; the Head of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Somoye; and programme facilitators who assured participants of hands-on, high-quality training sessions.
The training will hold simultaneously in two locations the Ketu-Ereyun Community Town Hall for trainees in the Ejinrin District and the Council Secretariat Multipurpose Hall for participants in the Ikosi District.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the council leadership, describing the initiative as a life-changing opportunity that would enhance their livelihoods and enable them to contribute positively to their communities.
Participants will receive training in various vocational fields, including hairdressing, fashion design, catering, barbing, makeover and gele tying, and soap making.
The programme underscores Chairman Anomo’s ongoing commitment to youth empowerment, women’s development, and grassroots capacity building, which has become a hallmark of his administration in Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA.
