The Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has officially commenced screening exercises for its football teams ahead of the forthcoming Lagos State APC Chairman’s Cup, a state-wide grassroots sports competition aimed at discovering and nurturing young talents.
EpeInsights reports that the Day 1 screening session, held on Thursday, drew a large turnout of enthusiastic young players eager to represent the LCDA. The event, described as a success, marked the start of what promises to be a thrilling journey for emerging football stars within the community.
Speaking on the development, Comrade Abiola Adedoyin Skippo, a member of the Epe Division Sports Committee, said the initiative is designed to identify and groom outstanding players who will fly the flag of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA at the state-level competition.
“The turnout today was very impressive,” he said. “We saw many promising youths with excellent skill, discipline, and determination. It shows that the passion for football in Ikosi-Ejinrin remains strong and that our future in sports is bright.”
He also announced that the Day 2 and final phase of the screening will take place on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Agbowa Community Grammar School by 9:00 a.m. prompt.
The session remains open to players under the age of 21 from various communities across the LCDA.
Comrade Skippo expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, Otunba (Akogun) Wale Raji Anomo, for his unwavering support and consistent investment in youth and sports development.
According to him, the Chairman’s encouragement has been instrumental in creating platforms for young people to explore their potential through sports.
“This initiative is not just about football—it’s about empowering our youths, fostering unity, and promoting grassroots talent to higher stages,” he added. “With the continued support of our Chairman, we are confident that Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA will make us proud at this year’s tournament.”
The Lagos State APC Chairman’s Cup serves as one of the key avenues for discovering and promoting young football talents across the state’s 57 local council areas, reinforcing the commitment of local governments to youth empowerment through sports.
