In a major stride toward improving access to clean and sustainable water, the Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Mayor Ameen Olawale Ibrahim has commissioned and officially handed over a Solarized Water Facility to residents of Agodo Alara and Agbede Ebuwawa communities in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The landmark project, executed in collaboration with WaterAid Nigeria and the PepsiCo Foundation, is part of ongoing efforts to provide safe, reliable, and eco-friendly water solutions to underserved communities across the LCDA.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Wednesday at Agodo Alara Community Primary School and Ebuwawa Market, attracted community leaders, stakeholders, representatives of partnering organizations, and enthusiastic residents who celebrated the initiative as a beacon of progress and social development.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Apanisile reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to community-centered governance and sustainable development. He described the solarized water project as a vital investment in public welfare, health, and economic empowerment.
“Access to clean water is a fundamental right and a foundation for healthy living. Through this project, we are not only addressing the water needs of our people but also promoting renewable energy and sustainability,” the chairman said.
He further appreciated WaterAid Nigeria and the PepsiCo Foundation for their unwavering partnership and support, describing the initiative as a model for effective collaboration between local government and development partners.

They emphasized that the solar-powered water system would provide a steady and eco-friendly water supply to the benefiting communities, improving hygiene, sanitation, and quality of life.
Community leaders and residents of Agodo Alara and Ebuwawa expressed gratitude for the project, noting that it would ease the burden of fetching water from distant or unsafe sources while reducing water-borne diseases in the area.
