The Legislative Council of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has concluded a three-day retreat on the Year 2026 Appropriation Bill.
Epe Insights reports that the retreat featured intensive lectures and practical training sessions designed to enhance lawmakers’ understanding of budgeting processes, financial regulations, and effective legislative oversight.
The sessions were facilitated by budget and public finance expert, Mr. Musibaudeen Adebayo, who focused on budgetary best practices, strict compliance with approved estimates, and the need for a harmonious working relationship between the Legislative Council and the Executive.
Participants were extensively guided on how to avoid common budgetary errors and ensure accurate appropriation in line with established financial and public service regulations.
On the second day of the retreat, the facilitator presented a detailed breakdown of the 2026 Appropriation Bill, enabling council members to carefully examine the structure, projections, and allocations within the proposed budget.
Lawmakers engaged in rigorous reviews and deliberations to promote transparency, accountability, and proper distribution of resources across critical sectors of the local government.
The exercise also provided an opportunity for members to align budgetary priorities with development needs and policy objectives of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.

At the closing session, the Leader of the 10th Legislative Council reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to delivering a people-oriented and thoroughly scrutinised 2026 Budget.
According to him, the Council is determined to transmit a well-examined and appropriately appropriated budget to the Executive Chairman to ensure smooth and effective implementation.
He noted that the Council’s position aligns with the SHIEELD Agenda of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, which focuses on accelerated development, good governance, and improved service delivery.
The Legislative Leader added that the 2026 Budget is expected to serve as a strategic tool for transforming Ibeju-Lekki into “The New Lagos” through responsive governance and sustainable development initiatives.
