In a bold stride toward redefining the future of education in Nigeria, Lagos State has again taken centre stage in digital transformation.
EpeInsights reports that under the leadership of Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and Chairman of Conference 57 Chairmen of Lagos State, the council is set to distribute Computer Tablets to all Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) students in Ibeju-Lekki, an initiative designed to enhance digital literacy and promote inclusive learning.
The programme, held in collaboration with Pan-Atlantic University and the MasterCard Foundation, aligns with the Federal Ministry of Education’s renewed agenda to reposition the nation’s learning ecosystem for the 21st century.
The official flag-off ceremony is scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Igando Oloja Secretariat, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
According to stakeholders, the initiative is not merely a distribution exercise but a defining moment in bridging the digital divide among students and equipping young minds for global competitiveness.
Speaking on the significance of the project, Youth Ambassador and 21st Century Educator Amb. Ibraheem Ogunbanwo, who also serves as Treasurer of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, described the initiative as “a handover of the future where technology meets opportunity.”
“This is more than a policy move; it is a transformational step towards a technologically empowered generation,” Ogunbanwo said.
“If we truly want to build the nation, we must first build our youth. Ibeju-Lekki is showing Nigeria that the future belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
He urged parents and education stakeholders to embrace the government’s renewed efforts to deliver quality, tech-driven learning and discourage the patronage of substandard private schools that limit students’ digital exposure.
The initiative forms a core part of Mayor Olowa’s SHIELD Agenda, which prioritizes Social Welfare, Health, Infrastructure, Education, Leadership, and Development — a framework that continues to drive inclusive growth across the local government.
Quoting Nelson Mandela, Ogunbanwo noted:
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” adding that “this project is Lagos once again taking the lead in using education as a weapon of transformation.”
