In a proactive step to address the growing threat of flooding in the region, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has officially inaugurated the Local Government’s Flood Mitigation and Planning Committee.
EpeInsights learnt that the committee, inaugurated on Tuesday, is tasked with identifying flood-prone areas, analyzing root causes, recommending effective mitigation strategies and developing comprehensive action plans to prevent flooding within the council area.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Akadiri Ayorinde listed the members of the newly constituted committee include:
- Hon. Adewale Raheem Kazeem – Chairman
- Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji – Member
- Mr. Kamiyo Adetola Tijani – Secretary
- Hon. Gbenga Kazeem Balogun – Member
- Hon. Akorede Ojomu – Member
- Mrs. Mary Akinola, HOD Environment – Member
- Comrade Adeboye Jabita, CDC Chairman – Member
- Hon. Ajumobi Lateef, CTA Environment – Member
According to Hon. Olowa, the formation of the committee underscores his administration’s resolve to prioritize the safety and well-being of residents, especially in light of the increasing threat posed by climate change and unregulated urban development.
“The committee is expected to deliver a detailed report outlining flood mitigation strategies, identify necessary resources, and explore potential partnerships for implementation,” the chairman stated.
He charged the committee to provide technical guidance and sustainable solutions that will not only address immediate flood risks but also inform long-term urban planning across the local government area.
This initiative adds to the series of environmental and infrastructural measures being introduced by the Olowa-led administration to improve resilience and quality of life in Ibeju-Lekki.
