The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) of Ghana has officially handed over 204 Nigerian victims of cyber-related human trafficking to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Lagos.

EpeInsights learnt that during the same operation, 27 suspected traffickers were also transferred to Nigerian authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

The handover ceremony, which was conducted in collaboration with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), marks a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against human trafficking between the two countries.

Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, attributed the success of the operation to the cooperation of financial institutions and telecommunications giant, Airtel.

She praised their role in providing critical support that led to the dismantling of the trafficking network.

According to the Lagos Zonal Commander of NAPTIP, Comfort Agboko, the rescued victims will undergo thorough profiling, counselling, and rehabilitation.

She added that the suspects would be processed and handed over to the relevant law enforcement agencies for prosecution.
