In response to the ongoing flooding affecting several communities within Ibeju-Lekki, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has issued a public advisory urging residents in impacted areas to prioritize safety and relocate to higher ground where necessary.

EpeInsights reports that in a statement released on Monday, Hon. Olowa acknowledged the hardship caused by the rising floodwaters and reassured residents that the local government is taking immediate and long-term action to mitigate the situation.

“We understand the hardship this has caused and urge everyone in affected areas to remain calm and prioritize their safety by relocating to higher ground or a safe shelter where necessary,” the statement read. “Your safety remains our utmost priority.”

To tackle the emergency, the local government has established a Flood Response Committee, which is already mobilizing equipment and personnel to provide temporary relief and assistance to affected communities.

Furthermore, Hon. Olowa confirmed ongoing collaboration with the Lagos State Government to craft and implement permanent flood control measures aimed at preventing future occurrences.

“We are working closely with the state government to develop and implement long-term solutions. Help is on the way,” he assured.

The Chairman also called for patience and cooperation from the public as the local government intensifies its response efforts.

Residents are advised to remain alert, avoid walking or driving through floodwaters, and report any emergencies or vulnerable individuals to local authorities for prompt support.
