In a celebration woven with compassion, service, and inclusivity, the Epe Division Professional Women Association (EPWA) has continued its 10th anniversary activities across multiple locations in the Epe Division, a symbolic reflection of its decade-long impact across communities.

EpeInsights learnt that from Owu-Ikosi in Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, where a free medical outreach brought healthcare relief to residents, to the Odomola Central Mosque in Eredo LCDA, where special prayers were offered for the association and finally to the Royal Waterfront Suites in Epe, where members gathered for an anniversary dinner, the day’s events captured EPWA’s enduring commitment to humanity, especially women and the girl-child.

At the elegant dinner event, President of EPWA, Mrs. Folake Oluyemi Johnson, delivered a stirring message of hope, empathy and advocacy for women in underrepresented communities.

“If I become the Governor of Lagos State for one day, I’ll dedicate my time to the upliftment of the girl-child and women from Ibeju-Lekki,”

Her declaration was met with applause as she spoke passionately about the realities faced by women in the coastal areas of Tiye, Ise, Folu, Magbon-Segun, and Imobido, describing their struggles as “deeply emotional and often overlooked.”

She lamented that many of these women, burdened by early pregnancies and societal neglect, continue to battle poverty, poor health and emotional trauma.

These women grow up with psychological and mental stress, encounter different degrees of health challenges, and some die in the process. It’s disheartening to see what they go through in remote communities,”

Earlier in the day, the Chief Imam of Odomola Central Mosque, Fadeelatul Sheikh Alhaji Muhammad Jamiu Olufowobi, led special prayers for EPWA’s success and for divine blessings upon its members.

He commended the association’s consistent efforts to uplift lives, noting that their acts of service align with Islamic teachings on compassion and communal care.

Speaking at the mosque, EPWA’s Vice President, Hon. Kehinde Kadri, explained that the choice of venue was deliberate, a mark of respect for HRM Oba Adeshina Adebowale, the Omola of Odomola.

She also took the opportunity to highlight EPWA’s achievements over the past decade.

“We support brilliant female students with cash awards, pay school fees for those in distress, and organize regular free medical missions, girls’ summits and empowerment programmes across the division,”

At Owu-Ikosi, the association’s free medical outreach underscored its philosophy of compassion in action, as over 100 residents received medical consultations, free medications, and health advice.

Veteran journalist, Mrs. Funke Moore and immediate past president Mrs. Balogun Opeoluwa emphasized the importance of inclusivity in EPWA’s approach to community service.

“Epe Division belongs to all, and it’s important that every community feels a sense of belonging. No area is left behind in our programmes,”

From faith-based gatherings to healthcare outreach and advocacy dinners, EPWA’s 10th anniversary celebration went beyond festivity, it was a reaffirmation of its mission to empower women, uplift communities and inspire collective action.

For ten years, the association has remained a strong voice for women’s advancement in Epe Division and as it enters a new decade, EPWA continues to stand as a testament to unity, compassion and the transformative power of women coming together for the common good.
