The historic town of Epe on Tuesday, 26th August 2025, played host to a high-powered delegation from the Office of the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Lagos State, during a strategic assessment and engagement session at the Epe Local Government Secretariat.

EpeInsights learnt that the working visit, which centered on a comprehensive review and group discussion, brought together government officials, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, artisans, market leaders, farmers, youths and opinion leaders from across the local government.

The atmosphere reflected unity, dialogue, and visionary exchange, embodying the spirit of sustainable development at the grassroots.

The Governor’s SDG team was led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDG, Dr. Oreoluwa Philip, ably represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mrs. Olusola Oyejobi. Other key members of the delegation included Mrs. Omonike George-Aiyudu, Special Adviser in the Office of the Governor on SDG; Mr. Sanusi Abdul Rahman Olajide, Director of Public Affairs, SDG; and Mr. Owoseni Olukotun, Head of Data and Statistics, SDG Office.

The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. (Princess) Surah Olayemi Animashaun, FHTI, was represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Adeniyi Owolomoshe, who warmly received the visitors alongside the Leader of the Epe Legislative Arm, Hon. Araba Taofeek; Chief of Staff, Hon. Tunde Odupe; Council Manager, Mrs. Monsurat Giwa; Education Secretary, Hon. Idowu Aliu Shittu; Comrade Toyin Gbadamosi, LGA Chairman of the CDC; councillors; executive committee members; management staff; as well as traditional rulers, chiefs, artisans, market leaders, farmers and youths.

In her remarks, Mrs. Olusola Oyejobi commended the developmental strides of the Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, noting that her achievements align strongly with the global framework of the Sustainable Development Goals.

“We are greatly inspired by the vision and commitment we have seen in Epe. The leadership of Hon. Princess Surah Animashaun has proven that grassroots governance can be innovative, inclusive, and impactful,” she said.

Similarly, Mrs. Omonike George-Aiyudu described the Epe model as a shining example of people-oriented leadership. According to her, “What we experienced in Epe today is a clear testimony that when leadership is visionary and inclusive, the people flourish.

The Governor is determined that no community will be left behind in the SDG drive and Epe has positioned itself as a trailblazer. We commend the Executive Chairman and her dynamic team for their accountability, energy, and people-focused approach to governance.”

Delivering his goodwill message on behalf of the council, Hon. Owolomoshe expressed gratitude to the Governor’s team for the engagement, describing it as an energizing experience for the council. He assured that under the purposeful leadership of Hon. Princess Surah Animashaun, Epe would continue to stand tall as a beacon of progress, a hub of opportunities, and a model of sustainability in Lagos State.

The visit ended on a strong note of renewed partnership between Lagos State and Epe Local Government, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to advancing the SDGs and ensuring that development in Lagos is inclusive, far-reaching and people-centered.
