Two days after the passing of the revered Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Dr. Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, the community continues to mourn while also embracing a new chapter in its storied leadership.
EpeInsights reports that the solemn atmosphere was palpable at the Epe Central Mosque this morning, where a special Islamic prayer session was held in honour of the late monarch.
During the prayer session, a significant announcement was made as the former Balogun of Epe Kingdom, High Chief Kadri Odedeogboro, was named the new Olu-Epe.
In a symbolic and emotional moment, High Chief Odedeogboro was officially adorned in traditional royal regalia at the mosque, marking his acceptance and recognition as the new traditional ruler of Epe Kingdom.
In his first address to the people of Epe, the newly elected monarch expressed deep humility and a commitment to service.
“I am deeply humbled by this honour,” he said.
“I promise to lead with integrity, unity, and love for our people. Above all, I will uphold the legacy of our late king, who served this land with wisdom and grace. May his soul continue to rest in peace.”
The selection process was conducted peacefully and unanimously by the kingdom’s traditional kingmakers, with the full support of elders and key stakeholders in the community, in accordance with longstanding customs.
Since the announcement of Oba Adewale’s death, tributes have continued to pour in from across Lagos State and beyond. Many have described him as a monarch of peace, wisdom, and humility, whose reign brought stability and cultural pride to Epe. Community leaders, religious figures, and political stakeholders have all joined in celebrating his impactful legacy.
As Epe prepares for the formal coronation of its new king, the people remain united in grief and hope, mourning a respected leader while welcoming a new one committed to honouring the past and shaping the future.
