The Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Princess Surah Animashaun, has restated her administration’s commitment to strengthening quality healthcare delivery at the grassroots, following public concerns over services in the area.

EpeInsights reports that the Council Boss while responding to a viral video in which a religious leader criticized healthcare standards in the Epe axis, described the video as an opportunity to clarify misconceptions and highlight ongoing health sector improvements under her leadership.

“The video does not reflect the full picture,” she said.

“Our healthcare centres are functional and are being continuously strengthened to serve the people better.”

According to the Chairman, the Papa Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) remains fully operational and was recently upgraded to a 24-hour service facility, a key milestone in her health reform agenda.

She explained that the upgrade was designed to complement the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Epe, particularly during night-time emergencies.

“The PHC is not only open; it’s running round the clock. This is a deliberate strategy to bring healthcare closer to the people,” she added.

Addressing the specific case referenced in the video—a woman allegedly turned away during labour—the Chairman clarified that Mrs. Sanni Funmilayo was attended to at the Papa PHC at 2:48 a.m. on May 21, 2025.

Medical personnel diagnosed the patient with severe hypertension (170/110) and oedema, classifying her as a high-risk obstetric case.

In accordance with clinical protocols, she was immediately referred to the FMC, with all documentation and communication in place.

“PHCs are not equipped to manage high-risk emergencies like this. Our team acted responsibly and in line with medical best practices,” she said.

To support emergency responses and referrals, the local government has deployed two ambulances across the area.

The Chairman also reiterated her administration’s commitment to the welfare of healthcare workers, promising continued advocacy for improved working conditions within existing legal and budgetary limits.

While welcoming public scrutiny and dialogue, she cautioned that such conversations must be grounded in facts rather than emotion or misinformation.

“We encourage civic engagement, but let it be informed and constructive. Our goal is shared, better healthcare for all,” Animashaun concluded.Epe Council Boss Defends Healthcare System, Reaffirms Commitment to Grassroots Access
