In a heartfelt show of respect and mourning, Eko Club International on Satuday called for a 24-hour pause in all communication across its platforms in memory of Hon. (Attorney) Larry Johnson, a devoted member and former Legal Adviser to the organization, who passed away unexpectedly.
EpeInsights reports that the call issued by Otunba T. J. Abass, President Emeritus of ECI, comes in the wake of the sudden and tragic death of Attorney Johnson, who was reported to have slipped in the bathroom during a trip to Cancun, Mexico, where he had traveled to celebrate a 70th birthday with friends.
Just a day before his passing, he was said to be “hale, hearty and full of life.”
“Larry was not just a member but part of our extended family,” Otunba Abass noted in a deeply moving tribute.
“His warmth, presence, and contributions left an indelible mark on our hearts and this organization.”
The tribute paints a picture of a life lived in service, humility, and quiet leadership. Johnson’s legacy within Eko Club International is one of commitment to justice, cultural pride, and selfless community engagement. His sudden departure, Otunba Abass said, serves as a sobering reminder of life’s fragility and the unpredictability of death.
“Regardless of our status, accomplishments, or plans, we are all bound for the same journey that comes unannounced and spares no one,” the tribute read.
“Let us use this time to reflect on his life, his contributions, and the legacy he leaves behind.”
In asking members to refrain from posting on club platforms for 24 hours, the organization seeks to create a moment of collective reflection and solemnity, honoring the life of a man who embodied the club’s highest values.
“Though he is gone, his impact lives on, in the lives he touched and the values he upheld,” Otunba Abass added.
“May his transition prompt us all to live more intentionally, serve more sincerely and love more deeply.”
Hon. (Attorney) Larry Johnson’s passing has left a profound void in the ECI community, but as the organization mourns, it also recommits to the spirit of unity, service and cultural pride that he championed.
