Eid-El-Adha: Governor Sanwo-Olu Joins Muslims in Celebration, Calls for Unity, Vigilance

As the joyous spirit of Eid-El-Adha filled the air across Lagos and Nigeria, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu joined Muslims in celebrating the sacred occasion.

EpeInsights reports that the Governor who spoke through his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, called it a time not just for festivity, but also for deep reflection on faith, sacrifice and national unity.

The 2025 celebration, held at The Pavilion, Lagos House, Marina, carried the theme “My Lord, Make This Land Secure” (Qur’an 14:35) a poignant reminder of the times we live in and the urgent need for collective responsibility in safeguarding our nation.

Speaking through his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Governor Sanwo-Olu underscored the importance of strengthening security measures nationwide.

“While we celebrate the values of Eid devotion, obedience, and sacrifice, we must also confront the reality that security remains one of the most pressing challenges we face as a nation,” he said.

“Together, we must support our security agencies and continue to build safer communities.”

His message was clear: unity, vigilance, and compassion must guide our actions.

He extended warm greetings to Muslims across the state and the nation, urging everyone to embrace the values embodied by Prophet Ibrahim (SAW), whose willingness to sacrifice remains a cornerstone of Islamic faith.

The Governor also took a moment to appreciate the tireless efforts of security personnel who ensured peace throughout the festivities, encouraging continued professionalism and dedication.

Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, wife of the Deputy Governor, echoed these sentiments, calling on Nigerians to recommit to spiritual devotion, unity, and the spirit of sacrifice.

She spoke passionately about the significance of Eid, reminding all of Prophet Ibrahim and Ismail’s complete submission to God’s will, a story that still inspires millions today.

In a stirring lecture at the event, respected Islamic scholar Dr. Saheed Ahmad reflected on the moral and spiritual foundations of national security.

Drawing from the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s prayer for Makkah, Dr. Ahmad emphasized that “a secure land is built not by laws alone, but by the character of its people.”

He didn’t hold back in calling for accountability, integrity, and justice, especially among those in power. “Let leaders pursue legacy, not vanity,” he said.

“And let the people remember that this land is a pot that feeds all; we must not drain it while we eat.”

Dr. Ahmad also highlighted Lagos’s transformation from a historical slave port to a modern megacity—a testament to leadership, vision and collective effort.

But he warned against complacency, reminding citizens and leaders alike of the sacrifices made by past generations.

The celebration was rich in spiritual energy, marked by prayers for peace, progress, and continued prosperity for Lagos and Nigeria.
