The campaign momentum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area (LCDA) showed no signs of slowing down as the party’s ward-to-ward tour continued on Friday, July 4, with a rousing rally in Wards G1 and F1,despite heavy rainfall.

EpeInights reports that hundreds of residents, party faithful and grassroots supporters turned out in large numbers to receive the APC candidates in a show of loyalty and enduring confidence ahead of the July 12 local government elections.

At the forefront of the rally were the APC Chairmanship candidate, Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, and his running mate, Alhaji Wasiu Oluwole Dehinsilu, who led the campaign team alongside several party leaders and stakeholders.

Speaking under a canopy as rain splashed around attendees, Anomo praised the resilience of party supporters and promised to consolidate on the achievements of his first term if re-elected.

He listed key accomplishments including ongoing road rehabilitation projects, renovations of public schools, free health missions, women and youth empowerment initiatives, and security support for local vigilante groups.

“Our performance is not based on promises, but on projects and programs that are visible in every ward. This second term will deepen what we’ve started, development that listens and delivers,” Anomo said.

In what was described as a major highlight of the rally, Hon. Adesanya Shakirat Adeyinka and Hon. Ganiyu Selim Oluwaseun, councillorship candidates for Wards G1 and F1 respectively, were formally presented to their constituents. Both are seeking reelection after what party leaders described as a “performance-based” first term.

They received enthusiastic endorsements from constituents who chanted slogans and waved party flags, some drenched but undeterred, symbolizing what many described as “a rain-washed covenant between the people and their leaders.”

In his remarks, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Otunba Nurudeen Yusuf, applauded the turnout and reaffirmed the APC’s grassroots appeal.

“We are not just running a campaign; we are deepening democracy at the grassroots. The people came out in the rain today not just because they support APC, but because they believe in leaders who serve and stay close to them,” Yusuf noted.

Other party chieftains in attendance included local women and youth leaders, ward executives, and traditional institution representatives who lauded the APC’s consultative approach to governance and community engagement.

The campaign continues with rallies scheduled in Wards Q1 and R1 on Monday, July 7, before culminating in a grand finale on Thursday, July 10.

The APC leadership says the campaign strategy is focused on “proximity politics”—bringing candidates directly to the people, listening, and building trust.

As the July 12 election date draws near, the political atmosphere in Ikosi-Ejinrin is heating up, with APC aiming for a decisive victory to maintain its grip on the council.
