Agoro Leads Permanent Secretaries in Health Checks as Lagos Opens Public Service Week

The 2025 Lagos State Public Service Week commenced on a vibrant note on Friday, October 3, as hundreds of public servants thronged the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, to take part in the Health Day activities organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

The event, which featured free medical screening and wellness services for government employees, witnessed an impressive turnout, reflecting the growing culture of preventive healthcare within the state’s workforce.

The Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, led members of the Body of Permanent Secretaries to the venue, where they actively participated in the health checks alongside other civil servants.

Mr. Agoro’s participation underscored the Lagos State Government’s leadership by example in promoting health consciousness and preventive care.

In his remarks, the Head of Service expressed appreciation to the medical personnel and volunteers drawn from various health ministries, departments, and agencies for their dedication and professionalism.

He lauded their selfless service and commitment to the welfare of public servants, describing the exercise as “well-organised, impactful, and a reflection of the government’s continued investment in its human capital.”

According to Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, the initiative aligns with the Ministry’s vision to promote preventive health practices and ensure the early detection of diseases among the state’s workforce.

Ogboye who was represented by the Director of Staff Health Service, Dr. Abdulrasheed Kolade, Dr. Ogboye noted that the encouraging turnout demonstrated public servants’ growing understanding of the importance of regular health checks.

“The Lagos State Ministry of Health remains committed to sustaining initiatives like this that safeguard the wellbeing of our workforce,” he affirmed.

“Healthy workers make a more efficient and productive public service.”

The Health Day event featured comprehensive screenings, including blood pressure checks, diabetes tests, eye examinations, dental consultations, and general wellness assessments.

The activities will continue on Monday, October 6, with a special focus on women’s health at the Folarin Coker Staff Clinic, Alausa Secretariat. Female public servants will benefit from free breast and cervical cancer screenings, as well as health education sessions on preventive care and lifestyle improvement.

The Public Service Week – Health Day initiative reinforces the Lagos State Government’s commitment to building a healthy, motivated, and high-performing workforce through continuous investment in health and wellness programs.
