The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. (Princess) Surah Olayemi Animashaun (FHTI), has extended healthcare services to underserved riverine communities through a comprehensive Free Medical Outreach across Emina, Saga, and Abomiti villages in Epe.
EpeInsights gathered that the initiative, coordinated by the Epe Local Government Medical Team under the leadership of the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Adeleke Awolesi, provided residents with free medical consultations, dental and eye examinations, malaria screening and treatment, blood pressure and sugar checks, as well as the distribution of essential drugs.
Speaking on the programme, Hon. Animashaun reiterated her administration’s commitment to ensuring inclusive and equitable healthcare access, particularly for residents in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
“Every life matters, whether on the mainland or in the riverine. Our duty as a government is to ensure that everyone, regardless of location, enjoys quality healthcare and a sense of belonging,” she said.
Residents of the benefiting communities expressed gratitude to the council for bringing health services closer to them.
A community elder from Abomiti, Chief Oseni, described the outreach as a much-needed relief for residents who rarely have access to medical facilities.
“This is the first time in a long while that such a large-scale medical team has visited our village. We appreciate the Chairman for remembering us,” he said.
Dr. Awolesi commended the Chairman’s consistent focus on public health, noting that the outreach aligns with efforts to strengthen preventive healthcare and raise community health awareness.
“This outreach helps in detecting illnesses early and educating residents on healthy living. The Chairman’s consistent support shows that Epe Local Government is truly people-centered,” he stated.
The exercise, which recorded hundreds of beneficiaries, reflects Hon. Animashaun’s proactive approach to governance — bridging healthcare gaps, promoting wellness, and ensuring that development reaches every community within Epe Local Government.
