Youth leaders and representatives from Ibeju-Lekki Federal Constituency have made a strong case for the swift passage of a landmark bill to establish the Federal Institute for Diving Technology in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
EpeInsights learnt that the delegation, which included Comrade Adesanya Ibrahim, National President of the Federation of Epe Division Students’ Association (FEDSA), participated in a public hearing at the National Assembly in Abuja, lending their collective voice to support the bill.
According to Comr. Adesanya, the strategic visit underscored the constituency’s commitment to institutionalizing professional diving education and tapping into Nigeria’s growing Blue Economy.
“This bill is a transformative step towards youth empowerment, technical innovation, and regional development. The proposed Institute will position Ibeju-Lekki as a hub of maritime excellence and create vast opportunities in education, employment and capacity building for young Nigerians,” he said.
The bill, sponsored by Hon. Prince Bayo Balogun, the Member representing Ibeju-Lekki Federal Constituency, has been widely lauded for its developmental foresight.
Comr. Adesanya commended Hon. Balogun’s purposeful leadership, describing him as a champion of future-focused initiatives that align with sustainable development goals.
The delegation was also inspired by the leadership of Hon. Engr. Akarachi Etanosa Amadi, Chairman of the House Committee on Oceans and Fisheries, who represents Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency in Imo State.
Comr. Adesanya praised Hon. Amadi’s youth-driven approach and his strategic contributions to ocean and maritime discourse.
“Hon. Amadi’s clarity of vision and energy are testaments to the fact that Nigerian youth are not just ready for leadership, we are already shaping the nation’s policy and innovation landscape,” Adesanya stated.
The proposed Federal Institute for Diving Technology is expected to play a crucial role in building Nigeria’s maritime workforce and enhancing local content in underwater engineering, offshore safety, and marine resource management.
FEDSA and its leadership reaffirmed their commitment to bridging the gap between grassroots voices and government policies while ensuring youth remain central to Nigeria’s developmental agenda.
