Lagos Govt Strengthens Pension Management with Annual Seminar for Public Service Officials

The Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) hosted its annual seminar for key pension-related personnel across the Lagos State Public Service.

The seminar, tailored specifically for Directors of Administration and Human Resources, Finance and Accounts, as well as Pension Desk Officers, provided a platform for knowledge sharing, policy updates, and reinforcing the importance of trust in pension administration.

Delivering the welcome address, the Director-General of LASPEC, Mr. Babalola Obilana, emphasized the critical role of trust in pension systems. “Pension administration is built on trust – the trust that employees place in the system to safeguard their years of service and secure their future,” Obilana stated. “That trust can quickly be lost when we fail in our duties, particularly in documentation, timely remittances, and reconciliation.”

The seminar featured participation from representatives of Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), Annuity Service Providers (ASPs), and top officials from the National Pension Commission (PenCom) zonal office, reinforcing inter-agency collaboration and compliance with regulatory standards.

Through sessions and discussions, participants explored emerging trends, regulatory compliance, and operational best practices in pension administration, in line with the state’s vision for a more efficient and responsive public service.

The Lagos State Government, under the #AGreaterLagosRising initiative, continues to prioritize the welfare of its workforce by institutionalizing reforms and capacity-building efforts such as this annual seminar.
