Commuters along the busy Lekki-Epe Expressway were thrown into confusion on Tuesday night following the sudden collapse of a pedestrian bridge under construction at Igando Oloja in Ibeju-Lekki.
EpeInsights reports that the bridge, located directly in front of the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Secretariat, came crashing down unexpectedly, prompting immediate concern among road users and residents.
In response to the incident, relevant authorities, including the construction team, traffic management agencies and security personnel, quickly stepped in to take control of the situation.
Their swift intervention ensured that traffic disruptions were minimized and public safety was maintained.
No casualties have been reported so far, and emergency measures are in place to secure the site and assess the structural failure.
As part of immediate traffic management strategies, road users have been advised to use alternative routes to ease congestion in the affected area.
Commuters coming from the Epe or Eleko axis were redirected through Ayeteju Road, which exits at Igando Oloja. Those approaching from the Ajah end of the expressway are advised to use the U-turn at Onasa, proceed through Onasa Road, connect to Ayeteju, and exit at Eleko Junction.
Authorities have temporarily designated this route as a one-way passage, and motorists are urged to drive with utmost caution.
Security operatives and traffic officers are on the ground to guide road users and enforce safety protocols.
Members of the public have been strongly advised to cooperate fully with officials and adhere to all safety instructions to avoid further complications or delays.
The prompt intervention by the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has been widely applauded.
His leadership in mobilizing a coordinated response within hours of the collapse has helped stabilize the situation and prevent panic among residents and commuters.
Stakeholders in the area have also expressed appreciation for the proactive steps taken to address the emergency.
Speaking on the development, Amb. SMASE Provost Ibraheem Ogunbanwo, Treasurer of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, called for calm and assured the public that the relevant authorities are working around the clock to resolve the situation and provide a lasting solution.
As assessments and remedial work continue, residents are urged to stay informed through official communication channels and avoid spreading unverified information.
Safety remains the top priority, and every effort is being made to restore normalcy along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
