The Epe Division of Lagos State is mourning the loss of one of its most revered elders, Chief Alhaji AbdulWahab Oladipupo Amuni, who passed away peacefully at the age of 91.
EpeInsights reports that Alhaji Amuni, a pillar of faith, wisdom and community service, held the distinguished title of Alakoso Adeen of the First Epe Central Mosque, Oke-Balogun.
He was also the Mogaji (family head) of the respected Amuni family, a role he fulfilled with dignity, compassion, and unwavering commitment.
His final rites were observed on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, with Janazah prayers held at the Epe Central Mosque following a procession from his residence at Marina, Epe.
He was later buried at Hon. Sanni Street, Iraye, surrounded by loved ones, Islamic clerics, community leaders, and well-wishers.
In a tribute at the funeral, Architect Abiola Anifowoshe described Baba Amuni as “irreplaceable,” recalling his generosity of spirit and problem-solving nature.
“Baba was a man with a big heart. Anyone who went to him with a burden never left without a solution. May Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”
Alhaji Olamide Aare, a close confidant and mentee, echoed the sentiment:
“He wasn’t just a religious figure. He was our father, counselor, and peacemaker. His legacy in Islam, Epe’s development, and human relations is indelible. We thank Allah for the blessing of his long, impactful life.”
A representative of the Com Amuni Fund, speaking on behalf of the family, offered a deeper glimpse into the late elder’s multifaceted role.
“Baba Amuni was a spiritual guide, political mentor, and family patriarch. As Mogaji, he led with clarity and compassion. His influence spanned religious, political, and community spheres — always grounded in humility.”
His residence on Marina Street was widely known as a refuge for those seeking advice, peace, or direction. Generations of residents remember it as a space where both young and old found comfort and clarity.
For many young people in Epe, Baba Amuni was a mentor and a model of integrity. Youth leader Abdul-Lateef Osho recounted how his encouragement left a lasting mark:
“Baba believed in young people and consistently reminded us to be honest, prayerful, and proud of our roots. He lived by those words. His legacy will continue to inspire us.”
Chief Alhaji AbdulWahab Amuni lived a life rich in purpose, faith, and service. His departure leaves a significant void, but his teachings, leadership, and impact will continue to guide the people of Epe and beyond.
As the community mourns, it also celebrates a life that truly embodied the values of faith, family, and fortitude.
