Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially signed into law the bill establishing the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA), transforming the visionary initiative into a statutory institution dedicated to grooming the next generation of public sector leaders in Nigeria.

EpeInsights reports that the landmark development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Executive Secretary of LJLA, Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, who described the moment as a defining step in institutionalizing ethical and transformational leadership across all tiers of governance in Lagos State and beyond.

“This is more than the passage of a bill; it is the birth of a legacy,” Agbaje-Okunade stated.

“The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy is now a legal institution empowered to deliver on its mandate with greater structure and impact. We are even more resolute in our commitment to raising the calibre of leaders our public sector deserves, leaders who reflect the ideals of excellence, integrity, and service.”

The Academy, established in 2022 and named after the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the first civilian Governor of Lagos State and a symbol of visionary leadership has since operated an immersive fellowship programme.

This programme gives young, promising Nigerians the opportunity to work closely with key figures in the Lagos State Government, including Executive Council members, Permanent Secretaries and Heads of critical agencies.

With its new legal status, LJLA is now better positioned to scale its impact, deepen its curriculum, and expand partnerships that support leadership development and public service reform.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s assent to the bill reinforces the state government’s long-term commitment to creating a sustainable leadership pipeline, especially at a time when the demand for accountable and dynamic governance is growing across Nigeria.

The law also reflects Lagos State’s forward-looking approach to governance ensuring the continuity of public service excellence through structured mentorship, hands-on training and value-driven leadership education.

The LJLA is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of governance in Nigeria by producing visionary leaders equipped with the skills, ethics and innovation required to drive inclusive development.Sanwo-Olu Signs Bill Establishing Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy into Law
