In a decisive move to curb crime and restore order, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit carried out a targeted raid in the early hours of Wednesday, arresting 49 suspects from criminal hideouts in Victoria Island.
EpeInsights the operation, which began around 1:00 a.m., was led by the agency’s Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, and focused on notorious areas such as Maroko Sandfill, Bonny Camp, and surrounding communities.
According to Akerele, the raid was launched in response to complaints and security tips from residents, concerned about the rise in petty crime and disorder in the area.
“Those who choose to undermine the peace and security of our communities must desist or be prepared to face the full weight of the law,” he warned.
Among the 49 arrested were 48 men and one woman, all suspected of being involved in illegal activities ranging from street thuggery to pickpocketing.
Akerele emphasized that the taskforce has intensified its efforts, now carrying out enforcement at least three times a week, focusing on crime hotspots and unauthorized settlements.
“We will not relent in our efforts to ensure a safer and cleaner Lagos,” he affirmed,
adding that the apprehended suspects have been charged to court in accordance with Lagos State laws.
The Lagos State Taskforce is not only cracking down on crime but also pursuing a broader mission of environmental sanitation and urban order. Akerele reiterated the agency’s commitment to making Lagos a peaceful, safe and livable city for all.
