As Nigeria commemorates Democracy Day, the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to community-centered governance, development and democratic ideals.
EpeInsights reports that in a heartfelt address to residents of the LCDA on Wednesday, Anomo described June 12 as a “defining moment” in Nigeria’s history, honouring the memory of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (GCFR) and other pro-democracy heroes who fought for civil rule in the country.
“This is a day etched in the annals of our democratic journey,” Anomo said.
“It reminds us of the collective will, courage, and resilience of the Nigerian people.”
Highlighting the significance of this year’s celebration, the chairman praised the resilience of Ikosi-Ejinrin residents amid nationwide economic challenges.
He noted that the LCDA has continued to make measurable progress in areas such as infrastructure, youth empowerment, healthcare access, and education.
“From newly rehabilitated rural roads to improved healthcare facilities and reinforced community security, our achievements are the product of a shared vision and your unwavering support,” he stated.
Anomo also expressed optimism about the national outlook, urging citizens to sustain their trust in democratic institutions and support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He credited Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat for implementing the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, which he said has positively impacted grassroots communities like Ikosi-Ejinrin.
“At the local level, our administration remains committed to transparency, equity, and responsive leadership,” he assured.
“We will continue to implement policies that directly benefit our people and give voice to every ward and stakeholder in our council.”
Concluding his message, Anomo called on citizens to renew their commitment to the ideals of democracy: justice, fairness, accountability and unity.
“Democracy is not just the absence of dictatorship, it is the presence of accountability, fairness and opportunity for all,” he emphasized.
The chairman’s message resonates as a rallying call for unity and progress, reflecting a broader national mood of reflection and recommitment to democratic values on a day of deep historical significance.
