The political spotlight is firmly on the All Progressives Congress (APC) as it holds its much-anticipated chairmanship primary election to determine the party’s flagbearer ahead of the July 12 local government polls.
EpeInsights is spotlighting Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area, LCDA (LCDA). At the centre of the heated contest is incumbent chairman Hon. Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, who is gunning for a second term.
With a screening score of 90, the highest among the contenders, Anomo is banking on his legislative milestones, welfare programs, and community development projects to sway delegates in his favor.
But it won’t be a walkover.
Seven other aspirants, each with their unique strengths and loyal backers, are in the race to unseat the incumbent. Among them are political veterans, youth advocates, cultural champions, and dark horses all poised to make their mark.
Here’s a quick glance at the contenders:
- Hon. Samson Adeniyi Onanuga – 64, grassroots heavyweight, scored 83.
- Hon. Adebayo Abiodun – 50, culture and tourism promoter, also scored 83.
- Hon. Muniru Temitope – 45, SLG and real estate developer, scored 82.
- Banjo Lateef Adeola – 61, respected elder with score of 81.
- Ojikutu Oluyombo – 41, youth-oriented media strategist, scored 80.
- Bakare Olusola Waheed – 48, quiet but strategic contender, scored 80.
- Fabayo Gbemisola – 54, experienced administrator and only female aspirant, scored 73.
As voting gets underway, the big question on everyone’s lips remains:
Can Anomo hold the fort, or will a fresh face emerge as APC’s new standard-bearer in Ikosi-Ejinrin?
